My bank account just yelled at me. This happens pretty much every time I look at it, but it was especially upset with me this time because moving cost me a lot of money. I'm not going to say how much, but suffice it to say that between my previous apartment's move-out/cleaning fees, losing the keys to my car, and the security deposit on the new house, and the ridonkulously high new insurance premium for living in DC proper, my monies have taken a beating. It's time I get my wallet/life in order, and some things need to change. Seeing as Thursday was the Jewish new year, I guess it's an appropriate time to make some resolutions.I will make lunch at home. I will not buy it more than once a week. Buying lunch more than once a week forfeits my right to buy lunch at all the next week.
I will make coffee at my desk.
I will buy those little 8oz cans of soda.
I will eat vegetarian at least one day a week. Say, Monday.
I will eat more fruit.
I will buy cereal and milk when I run out, not after having bought breakfast for two days.
I will ask about drink specials when I go out, and I will not be pretentious about my beer when the specials are good.
I will pregame, and not with the good whiskey.
I will not eat out by myself, and I will take food home Sunday through Thursday.
I will not drive anywhere less than three miles. I will not take the Metro anywhere less than two. Until it gets cold, I will not pay for cabs, I will take my bike.
I will buy a Kryptonite lock, to protect my bike.
I will sell things on Craigslist when I don't need them anymore and revenue will be earmarked for other expenses.
I will not procrastinate. On Wednesdays. Wednesdays will be do-or-die day.
I will cancel my subscription to ESPN Insider after football season.
I will study for the GRE for real.
I will stop paying money to hang out in lieu of doing things that I really should do, that are much less expensive like cleaning my bike.
I will finish weeding my mother's garden and trimming the gigantic mimosa tree before it gets too cold.
I will stop hitting the snooze button so often.
I will clean my desk occasionally.
I will print off this list and post it all over the damn place, so I don't forget about this.
Truth be told, I wrote this post last week. I've been doing a good chunk of this for the past few days and it's been going pretty well. Problem is that as I sit here having just washed the french press I used to make my morning coffee, sipping my 8oz coke after a delicious lunch of leftover tofu that I saved from last night's dinner (rode my bike to and from), I have a fear that I'm in stage two of Allie Brosh's never-ending cycle of why I (we?) will never be an adult. It's the part where I start to feel accomplished and am approaching self-congratularity. (Hell yeah, that's a word.) (And credit to Allie Brosh for the image to the left)Football stuff will be out tomorrow or Wednesday. Probably Wednesday because I'm going to procrastinate until then.

hahaha that is one of my favorite allie brosh posts of all time. CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!!!!!!!!!
you can do it. and just because you slip on one thing doesn't mean you should give up on the other things! this is what we say to people in recovery ... you will slip up, but just don't give up (haha)
ilan and i are going through a similar thing right now. last night we planned out all our meals (including lunches) for the whole week so we don't overbuy at the grocery store, not make any food, and then eating out anyway.
yeah, this is the sucky part of being a grown up. unfortunately, it can take a long time before your income can even attempt to match all the things you want to do. seriously annoying.
though i must say, i particularly like that item about taking care of my flower bed, including the Mimosa From Mars that is taking over the house!
landscaping is one of next year's projects. assuming we ever finish with THIS year's projects.
But wait...isn't it cheaper to buy 12 oz cans?? Or am I missing the hidden awesomeness in the 8 oz???
I refuse to make lists because I know I will fail and then I'll feel bad for being a failure. The only list I'm making sure I finish is my 30/30 list. And if I die shortly after I complete the list I'm going to at least feel better that I finished something that is not related to cleaning my house.
GREAT GOALS!!!!
this is a great list! very effective! i have one too :D
by the way you might want to add "keeping an eye out for coupons at the supermarket" they're really practical and also, i buy in bulk :)
good luck with keeping up!
p.s. i really should get a kryptonite lock for my bike too!
Love your list!! Re: The finish hitting the snooze button, maybe I should start practicing that too.
Haha. I loved it. I need to print it off and put it all over the damn place too. It might help me. I've been horrid the past few months.
Sara, buying the 12oz cans might be less expensive per fluid ounce or something, but I don't need all that much. I just sometimes need a little extra caffeine; after a big lunch, cloudy days, etc. So the 8oz cans do the job just as well and for less monies.
Tiffany, I get coupons every once in a while, but my approach to grocery shopping is usually to wander through the aisles and go "oh, i need that!" so I usually don't have a coupon with me haha. I'd make a list, but then there'd be tons of things on it and I'd buy more than I can carry home.
